  • i have better understanding of what the difference between, culture ,ethnicity, identityheritage and race  is. this allowed me to get better understanding of my mixed ethnicity and how i identify.

  • when doing my secondary research  I looked at historical research and present day articals to get different perspectives from the different time on the topic of identification and race.

  • i need to do more research into what this topic means to others and see how i can develop on from my contextual research to visual research. like montages and drawing . i think by exploring the common features within different ethnic groups will help me when starting my making process so im going look more in depth at that.

  • i decided to look more into why some ethnic groups have a stronger need to identify with their race, heritage and culture and why its so important to them.

  • i going try narrow it my research down more because there so much information when looking into this topic and i don't want to lose track or get confused.

  • i decided i wanted to experiment with using clay and make little characters with it, so bought oven bake clay that is apparently easy to mould and sculpt with. i think this will be good because i haven't got things like kiln or normal moulding clay.

  • i  just starting the making process with drawing to get a better understanding on how facial features are structured before working with my clay.also doing some little illustrations to see what kind of character i want to make with my clay.

  • I found the DNA test really exciting to do, some results were surprising like the East African and East Asian there very small percentages but still a part of my estimated DNA.  happy that the result came back quite broad so i can do a lot with it.

  • after getting the results back i decided to focus my project more into taking inspo for the different cultures in my DNA.

  • im going to experiment with different mediums other than clay to make my doll.

10/04/20

  • i started experimenting with needle felting to see if i liked working with that medium and i enjoyed it at the start but over time found it very hard to work with because the felting wool is very thin so i kept inhaling in the strands that were flying around. also you have to repetitively stab the felt to add structure, i started to find it stressful .so left it unfinished but happy with the results but wont be working with ti again for this project.

25/04/20

  • I started making the clay heads and i decided to make them small because my first time making clay faces and need watch more video on how to properly construct the faces..

5/05/20

  • stared making my big doll which was bit harder because i had to construct the body, so i have  to look at more video to  make sure i'm doing it right. the legs keep snapping off so im going to have to add more clay or look up another way to do them.
